Egypt Migrations is a federally incorporated not-for-profit dedicated to preserving the histories of Egypt’s migrants. We produce accessible educational resources, foster community storytelling, and advocate for equitable, inclusive archiving. Our work centers diverse and often opposing voices, aiming to build a vibrant, empowered Egyptian diaspora.
As Founder and Executive Director, I led the creation of the first archival collection on Egyptian immigration in North America. I’ve curated exhibitions, built a digital magazine and oral history series, and guided long-term strategy with a dedicated Board of Directors. I continue to champion partnerships between communities, cultural institutions, and academia to archive oral histories, host exhibitions and conferences, and collaborate with museums, scholars, and community members to preserve stories across generations and geographies.
Diaxporas: Migration Memory Research Collective (Robarts Centre for Canadian Studies, York University)
Diaxporas is composed of a group of scholars based at York University, public historians, archivists, librarians, and community members who produce and disseminate knowledge of Canada’s migrant and diasporic communities’ histories, memories, and interactions with one another and with the general society. It develops collaborative research projects and creates opportunities for sharing resources and expertise; promotes innovative teaching and student and public engagement; and facilitates the preservation and increased accessibility of historical records and artifacts by public archives and museums. It organizes academic conferences, produces edited volumes, develops digital and public history initiatives (i.e., podcasts, exhibitions, public panels), and other knowledge mobilization initiatives in collaboration with community partners.
